Alistair Gray, a strategy consultant who has worked in various sports in Britain, has been appointed chairman of British Swimming in the build up to the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Gray, the founder and Managing Director of Genesis, has led strategic reviews of a variety of sports, including soccer and tennis, two sports in which Britain has long struggled in when it comes to achieving success at continental and world levels. He has also worked in the world of rugby.

In a British Swimming press release, Gray said: "I am delighted to have the opportunity to work with British Swimming at this time in its life, especially with the imminent prospect of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The sport has performed well in recent years, in and out of the water."
