The Austrian backstroke ace will aim for the world crown in Rome before hanging up his goggles

World s/c champion and Olympic silver medallist in the 200m backstroke, Markus Rogan (AUT), has told international agencies that he will retire in the wake of the 2009 World Championships, to be held not far from his training base, in Rome, Italy.

He wanted to go out on a high and believed that the world crown could be his. 'I know I'm not a frontrunner but I have a chance to win gold. If I do everything 100%, if I'm lucky and the others aren't, I could win a gold medal,' he said on a radio show that was reported by AFP, among others.
