Omaha Day 1 semis: Hansen gives his WR a scare on first night of US trials

2004 Olympian Brendan Hansen looks to make a second team as he highlights a fast final tomorrow night in the 100 metre breaststroke.

Hansen took the race out fast in 27.75, a mere tenth off his own WR pace, and finished the same distance away as he clocked a very fast 59.24. Setting records at Trials is old news for Hansen as he set both the 100 and 200 metre marks back in 2004. The Olympics were a different story however, as he finished 2nd in the 100 and 3rd in the 200 behind double winner Kosuke Kitajima (JPN). With Kitajima stealing Hansen's 200 record mere weeks ago, Hansen's eyes will be on gold and revenge in Beijing.

In for second heading into the final is Mark Gangloff just off his best, set in the prelims, in 1:00.17. 200 specialist Eric Shanteau will occupy lane 3 in a best time of 1:00.63. it took a 1:01.38 to make the final.
