Sinead Russell (sister of 2008 Olympic Team member Colin Russell) broke Nancy Garapick's 32 year-old Canadian 13/14 National Age Group record for the 100 back at a swim meet in Barcelona yesterday.

Russell, who swims for the Dolphins Swim Club and is coached by her mother in Oakville, ON, is also the daughter of former coach Cecil Russell. The 14 year old smashed Garapick's record of 1:03.28 (set in a bronze medal winning swim at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal) twice, once in heats with a 1:02.90 then again in the finals with a 1:02.66 to finish in 8th spot at the Mare Nostrum's Barcelona stop.

Of the 11 girls on the top 10 All-Time TAG list, 6 went on to represent Canada at the Olympics in backstroke: Garapick '76, Howard '92 & '96, Stefanyshyn '00, Dryden '92 & '96, Seeman '08, and Melien '88.
