Brazilian heads to the US; Barbosa clocks 1:01.65 100m breaststroke

Thiago Pereira, one of Brazil's top swimmers, is to train with coach Greg Troy at the University of Florida, where fellow Brazilian and former Olympic medal winner Gustavo Borges spent the bulk of his best year.

Pereira, 20, said that swimming "had an end" and sport was "temporary". In Florida he could conmtinue to swim while studying for his future.

He was speaking at the José Finkel Tophy in São Paulo, where Henrique Barbosa set a South American record of 1:01.65 over 100m breaststroke.
